Jason Yap – Principal Tennis Coach and Head Personal Trainer

Jason Yap is a qualified tennis coach and personal trainer and has extensive experience in these fields for over 6 years. He has developed a passion for tennis since he first picked up a racket at the early age of 5. He has played tennis for over 20 years at the local, state and international levels. He has spent time training at the Australian Institute of Sport and competed on the ITF junior circuit traveling around the globe competing against the world’s best reaching a highest ranking of Top 5 in Australia.

As a recipient of a tennis scholarship from the University of Utah he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sport Science with a minor in Communication. Whilst representing the University of Utah for tennis, he was ranked in the top 40 for doubles in the United States of America.

Jason has broad experience competing in several other sports such as Soccer, Basketball, Cricket and Table Tennis. But more recently, he has achieved new heights in Australian Rules Football. After only playing football for the past 4 years, he was voted Southern Football League’s Best & Fairest Player in 2010. In 2011, he finished in the top 3 for the League’s Best and Fairest and was also a premiership player for the Southern Dragons Football Club where he won the Club’s Best and Fairest in back to back years. In the Southern Dragon’s 2011 Premiership Grand Final, Jason lead from the front as vice-captain of the team and was also voted Best on Ground receiving the Maneilly Medal.

Jason has experience in gyms as well as working for tennis centers in Australia and the USA training clients to improve and transform them on a mental and physical level. He specialises in  body fat reduction, building of lean muscle mass, strength and sports conditioning, injury rehabilitation and also specialises in improving his clients in all aspects of their tennis game. Through his specialised training sessions, he delivers personalised challenging programs that are unique to the needs and wants of each client. His main goal as your tennis coach and personal trainer is to make every session enjoyable and challenging using proven training methods to assist you all the way towards “Smashing your tennis, health and fitness goals for a GRANDSLAM!” He brings a diverse wealth of knowledge and experience to the table that will no doubt benefit the clients at Grandslam Fitness.

  • Level 1 Junior Development Coach (Certified by Tennis Australia)
  • Certificate 3 & 4 in Fitness and Personal Training (Certified by Personal Training Academy)

  • Certified in Self Myofascial Release (Certified by Personal Training Academy)
  • Current First Aid Certificate
